How this calculator works
The calculator works out your taxable income under each regime, applies the slab rates for the year you choose, deducts any rebate or marginal relief, and adds 4% health and education cess. Taxable income and the final tax are rounded to the nearest ten rupees, as the law requires.
New regime slab rates
These rates apply to resident individuals of all ages for Tax Year 2026-27 and FY 2025-26.
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to Rs 4,00,000 | Nil |
| Rs 4,00,001 to Rs 8,00,000 | 5% |
| Rs 8,00,001 to Rs 12,00,000 | 10% |
| Rs 12,00,001 to Rs 16,00,000 | 15% |

| Rs 20,00,001 to Rs 24,00,000 | 25% |
| Above Rs 24,00,000 | 30% |
A rebate of up to Rs 60,000 applies when taxable income is Rs 12 lakh or less. Just above Rs 12 lakh, marginal relief limits your tax to the amount by which your income exceeds Rs 12 lakh. Salaried people get a standard deduction of Rs 75,000.
Old regime slab rates
| Taxable income | Below 60 | 60 to 79 | 80 and above |

A rebate of up to Rs 12,500 applies when taxable income is Rs 5 lakh or less. The standard deduction for salaried people is Rs 50,000. You can enter exempt allowances, such as the exempt part of HRA, and the deductions you are eligible for.
Two quick examples
- Salary of Rs 13,00,000, new regime. Taxable income is Rs 12,25,000 after the standard deduction. Slab tax is Rs 63,750, but marginal relief limits it to Rs 25,000. With 4% cess, total tax is Rs 26,000.
- Salary of Rs 10,00,000 with Rs 1,50,000 of deductions, old regime. Taxable income is Rs 8,00,000. Tax is Rs 72,500 plus cess, a total of Rs 75,400. Under the new regime the same salary gives zero tax.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the calculator show tax of zero on a salary of Rs 12.75 lakh?
Under the new regime, salaried people get a standard deduction of Rs 75,000, which brings taxable income to Rs 12 lakh. The rebate then cancels the full Rs 60,000 of slab tax.
Which year should I choose?
Choose FY 2025-26 if you are filing a return in 2026 for income earned from April 2025 to March 2026. Choose Tax Year 2026-27 for income you are earning now, from April 2026 to March 2027.
Do I need to enter my deductions for the new regime?
No. The new regime allows very few deductions, and this calculator applies the standard deduction automatically. The deduction fields apply only to the old regime.
